Benard "Duke" WilsonAugust 1, 1933 ~ September 20, 2017 (age 84)
Bernard “Duke” Wilson was a man who always reached out to help his family and friends with love and utmost respect. He will be missed and his wonderful example will live on in the lives of those touched.
Bernard was born in Spartanburg county on August 1, 1933 to the late Claude Wilson, Sr. and the late Mary Stewart Wilson. He attended Cumming Street School of Spartanburg. Bernard served in the United States Army and earned a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Bernard was employed at Britton Construction and Simms Transfer.
Bernard was a member of the Majority Baptist Church in Spartanburg, South Carolina where he served on the Deacon’s Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Usher Ministry, Male Choir Ministry, and Cureton’s Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge# 175yhe was Thirty Third degree mason,Past Parton of St. Mary Chapter # 175 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Associate Patron of Julia Grand Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, Grand Deputy Inspector General of Mt. Olive Grand Council State of South Carolina. Past Potentate of Lowery #2 Shriners Temple and Past Grand Potentate of McClinton Shriners Temple. Bernard also founded the Majority Baptist Church All Male Chorus.
Loving and cherished memories are left to his wife, Janice L. Wilson of the home; two daughters: Vickie Dianne Wilson of Taylors, SC and Mary Woodward of Spartanburg, SC; one son, Gerald Bernard Wilson of Spartanburg, SC; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. a god sister-inlaw, Dr. Sarah Simmons (Julius) of Inman, SC; a host of other relatives and friends. Bernard was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and now he is resting in peace to the care and keeping of a loving and merciful God. We give thanks. Amen.
